Kids Teeth Park West History

Since the conception of the Park West office in 2008 we’ve seen over 7,262 patients, “super sealed” 6,521 teeth, and donated several thousand dollars back to our community! We thought it would be fun to take a look back and share a little insight to how/why Kids Teeth Park West came to fruition.  Here’s what Dr. Mike and Dr. Will had to say about the process of building the Park West location.

Why was expanding to Park West valuable after only serving South Mt. Pleasant for many years?  Were there other areas you were considering?

Having a location in the North Mt. Pleasant area allowed us to better serve our patients that not only live in that area but beyond.  We have a lot of families that travel from Myrtle Beach, Andrews, and Georgetown just to see us! Having the two locations within Mt. Pleasant also allows our patients to schedule after school activities with more flexibility.  Often the sports practices are located near Park West and Carolina Park so we end up seeing the same family at both locations.

We have been asked numerous times by other physicians and dentists to open an office on Daniel Island.  While we try to make our offices convenient to our families, we don’t want to lose the quality of the Kids Teeth experience.  Our goal is to maintain the personal relationships.

What other businesses were here when the building was developed? Any still here?

Publix, Park West Veterinary office, The Loop pizza grill, Just Chill grill, few other medical and dental offices (Dr. Amanda Seay), Park West Daycare.  Most are still here with the exception of restaurant changes.

What is your favorite office feature or at least name a few “must haves”?

Creating a fun environment to put the children at ease was a definitely a priority. An indoor playground was a must! Nothing is more intimidating than a cold sterile waiting room.  Also having personal treatment rooms with TVs on the ceilings.  We knew this would help the patient’s mind relax and not worry about any treatment being rendered.  Check out a few of our office photos to view the indoor playground.

Did you build the location from the ground up?  What was your biggest hurdle during development?

Kids Teeth Park West Office DesignYes! Making sure our construction plans and decisions were implemented.  The myriad of options can be overwhelming but all of them together can make a successful end result.  We couldn’t be happier with the layout, quality of construction, and the comfortable upfit.

What is your proudest accomplishment (or moment) at the PW location?

When new families walk in to our office and the patient’s jaw drops when they see the indoor playground. The families love our comfortable environment so much that we have hosted numerous mom’s group meetings, school educational tours, sport team season end parties, several charity fundraising parties.

We know how busy families are these days and having a second office has allowed us to continue to provide great care in a comfortable and convenient location.

What’s Next at Kids Teeth?

Although we are celebrating our 10th anniversary at our Park West location, Kids Teeth was originally established in 1979 as Dr. Jan’s.  We are excited and already gearing up to celebrate our 40th anniversary in August, 2019.
