Kids Teeth Dental Assistant

What is a Dental Assistant and what role do they play in the office?

The Dental Assistant plays a vital role on the dental team. Their major role is assisting the dentist during dental procedures to increase the efficiency of treatment. They not only help to make the
Kids Teeth Dental Assistantpatients feel more comfortable, they prepare all the instruments and materials, monitor sedations, provide patient and parent education, take x-rays and impressions. They sterilize instruments and equipment, and serve as the infection control specialist in the office by keeping up to date on the latest infection control protocols. Much of their work is done behind the scenes before and after the patient leaves the office: such as ordering supplies, maintaining patient records, contacting patients for follow-up, completing lab work, servicing and maintaining the dental equipment to name a few.

Dental Assistants are also involved in the administrative side of the dental office. They answer the telephone, schedule appointments, file insurance, and present treatment plans. Some even manage dental offices. The list goes on!

To recognize our Dental Assistants and their dedication to the dental profession, we celebrate Dental Assistant Recognition Week annually in March. You can learn more about our assistants on our team page.
