We promise we’re not ditching you during dental X-rays — we’re just stepping out for a very good reason.
For patients, dental X-rays are extremely safe. The amount of radiation you’re exposed to is very low — about the same as eating a few bananas or taking a short plane flight. Plus, we add extra protection by using lead aprons and collars to make them even safer for your child.
So why do we leave the room?
The difference is frequency. You or your child only get X-rays occasionally, but our team takes them many times a day, every single day. Even though the amount is tiny, repeated exposure over years can add up. By stepping out of the room for just those few seconds, we minimize our own long-term exposure.
Think of it like standing in the sun. Spending a minute in the sun is no big deal, but if you stood out there all day, every day, you’d want sunscreen or shade. It’s the same idea with us and X-rays — just an extra layer of protection for the team while we care for your child’s smile.
Rest assured:
Dental X-rays are very safe for your family, and when we step out, it’s simply a precaution to keep ourselves healthy too — so we can be here to keep those little teeth shining bright for years to come.
